History

During the early years, television celebrities like Forrest Tucker (F Troop) and Robert Lansing (12:00 O'clock High) were main attractions. Eventually, the Air Force Marching Band replaced those famous faces. (Today, we have a local resident that is honored with the yearly "grandmarshall" duties.)

In 1962, the Chamber and base officials joined together in coordinating the first parade and the first free beef barbecue. Raffle tickets were sold to help defray costs, the grand prize being a Ford Fairlane 500. Today, raffle winners receive everything from cash to vacations to camping equipment.

Clubs, civic organizations, merchants and the men and women of the Air Force who volunteer have moved away come back just to enjoy the occasion.
