In 1961, the Chamber of Commerce had a sales promotion and called it "Air Force Appreciation Day" (AFAD). The members wanted to
encourage neighborly growth and express their gratitude for the economic
benefits the Air Force brought to Southern Idaho by offering "cut rate
prices."
Throughout the years, AFAD has evolved into the largest event
in Elmore County featuring one of the largest parades in Idaho. Every September,
thousands of friendly people come for the celebration. The
two-day event is filled with food, entertainment, prizes, and plenty
of old-fashioned fun.
