Our visitor center is located at exit 95 on Interstate 84. The drive between Boise and Twin Falls can be long and bleak, so we kind of think of our center as an oasis in the desert. The center offers an extensive
collection of brochures featuring Gem State attractions. The center is opened year round and its staff
is comprised primarily of volunteers. We also offer some unique locally made.
Idaho gifts such as custom embroidered clothing. Local artist Bobby Kelly not only donated the artwork for the Mountain Home logo, but also pen and ink note
cards that she says will be sold exclusively at the center. So if you're a collector of these items or
know one; you'll want to stop and add to that collection. Additional items for sale include coffee mugs,
sweatshirts, hats, collector items, and various other Idaho souvenirs. |
The Desert Mountain
Visitors Center, just off the interstate next to McDonald's and Wendy's on
American Legion Boulevard, may be the ideal spot to begin a tour of the
area. Operated by the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce and staffed
by volunteers, the center is open all year round. Staff members have
an extensive knowledge of the area and numerous sources of information are
available to them to help them inform travelers about the many
recreational opportunities in the area. Focusing on the natural
beauty of the area, staff can direct visitors to locations where they may
camp, hike, boat, swim, fish, or take advantage of numerous other outdoor
activities. A calendar of events helps the staff guide visitors to
special activities throughout the year.
The facility also carries a selection
of souvenirs along with Idaho collector items including designs and
paintings by local artists. Staff at the Desert Mountain Visitors
Center will be able to give information to allow visitors to make the most
of the time they have in Elmore County area. For additional
information phone the Desert Mountain Visitors Center at (208) 587-4464.
